Watch: An Abbotsford church’s shower ministry

When Henry Penner saw a need in his community, he decided to meet that need.

The Abbotsford, B.C. resident, along with King Road Mennonite Brethren Church, operates a mobile shower trailer for people who are experiencing homelessness.

Refresh Mobile Showers has provided more than 550 showers since the unique operation started almost eight months ago.

The Abbotsford News recently reported that the idea for Refresh Mobile Showers came to Penner after watching a video about a similar service in Missouri.

He wrestled with the idea at first, but decided to pursue the project after his friends, church, and even Abbotsford’s mayor encouraged him.

“Everyone said, ‘Don’t give up. Go for it!’ And that kept me going,” Penner told the community paper.
