Watch: A pro skier’s advice for his son

Professional skier Dave Treadway was just 34 years old when he died in a tragic skiing accident near Pemberton, B.C. on April 15, 2019.

Treadway is remembered not only as a fearless skier but as a beloved husband, father, brother and son who possessed a deep faith in God.

Treadway’s faith led him to launch a youth mentorship program at Pemberton Community Church, a Mennonite Brethren congregation.

That same faith comes through in a new video Treadway’s family posted on YouTube earlier this week on the first anniversary of his death. Watch it below.

Treadway is survived by his wife Tessa and their three sons, Kasper, Raffi and Malto.

In the video, Treadway offers his eldest son some advice.

“My advice for you, Kasper, really isn’t my advice, it comes straight from the Bible,” Treadway says. “It’s love God and love each other, and through that you’ll love this world and all that it has to offer.”

Paul Cumin, formerly the lead pastor at Pemberton Community Church, spoke at Treadway’s celebration of life service last year. He said Treadway was outspoken about his faith but never pushy about it.

“One of the things I admired about Dave was that he was every bit as authentic in church on Sunday morning… as he was on the mountains and in everyday life,” said Cumin, who is now the senior pastor at Lendrum Mennonite Church. “I think the world needs more people like that.”
