Mennonite credit union proposes name change

Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU), based in Kitchener, Ont., announced that it is embarking on a process of rebranding, including the change of its name. Founded in 1964, the credit union served members of the Mennonite, Amish, and Brethren in Christ communities in Ontario. In recent years MSCU broadened its membership guidelines to include others in Ontario who support the “Statement of Shared Convictions” as articulated by Mennonite World Conference. The current recommendation is part of a strategy to increase growth and profitability of the credit union. MSCU’s name is seen as a deterrent to welcoming other members of the faith community.
