Hillcrest celebrates 60 years

Hillcrest Mennonite Church in New Hamburg, Ontario, celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special service on November 17. The service attracted numerous visitors, including five former pastors. The theme was “Gathered to Grow…Scattered to Serve,” which has long been the church’s motto.

In addition to a sermon titled “Like a Tree Planted by Water” by current pastor Kevin Peters Unrau, the service also included comments by Glenn Zehr, a former interim pastor, who has written a Hillcrest anniversary book. Zehr noted that while many things have changed over 60 years, the church’s motto, “Gathered to Grow…Scattered to Serve,” remains.

Copies of the anniversary book are available for $20 from the church (office@hillcrestmc.ca or 519 662-1577).

Based on a report by Rae Nafziger, who has been a member of Hillcrest for nearly 50 of the church’s 60 years.
