Bike-a-thon to raise funds for affordable housing

MennoHomes is seeking participants for its annual bike-a-thon, Out-Spok’n V, to raise funds for a new affordable housing project in Elmira, Ont., on Saturday June 20, 2015. In 2014 over 80 riders and sponsors raised $46,000 for a new 25-unit apartment building, to be built on land that MennoHomes purchased jointly with Woolwich Community Services. “This new project will meet a real need in this community” says Dan Driedger, executive director for MennoHomes. “We’ve just completed a housing survey in Elmira and, based on just those responses, we could already fill this building four times with qualifying households.” While called a bike-a-thon, the event has a variety of options for walkers, cyclists, and even motorcycle enthusiasts. More information is at www.mennohomes.com. Founded as a charitable organization in 2001, MennoHomes builds and rents affordable housing to seniors and families in Ontario's Waterloo Region.–MennoHomes
