Guinness World Record…?

Biking 20 out of every 24 hours, sleeping only 2 hours. What does it take to get across the country in record time? My dad’s an ultra-marathon cyclist. In this sport, everything you do counts as part of your time: eating, sleeping, going to the washroom. All that matters is when you cross the finish line.

Right now he’s by Petawawa, ON, on his way to Ottawa and then beyond to Halifax. He started in Vancouver on July 1st, and rode the majority of the way ahead of the Guinness record pace. He was plagued with fluid retention in his legs and needed to take a 15-hr extended break. So he’s 4.5 hours behind the pace now. But his sights are set on Halifax and we’re praying for him.

Why would he do this? Well, I suppose he’s a bit of a nutty athlete that loves to challenge himself. But this ride is called Grandpas Can, and it’s encouraging grandpas to realize that they have a much bigger role to play than spoiling their own grandchildren and hitting the golf course. Grandpas can break a Guinness World Record (hopefully), grandpas can make a difference in the world. Charles Mulli is also a grandpa to 5 grandchildren, and a father to over 6,000 that have been rescued from the streets in Kenya. He heads up Mully Childrens Family, a dynamic orphanage that aims to be self-sustainable and integrates previously abandoned street children back into society. They have a remarkable amount of success in everything they touch.

Visit www.grandpascan.com/ride for more details and to follow the last 1700km of the ride.

Charles Mulli is joining his support crew in Ottawa, so prepare for things to get interesting!

Taking Heart,
