Spirituality of Living Lightly

"Nowhere to lay his head..." We've been living lightly, moving lightly. Not that it's been a bad experience, but we've been lay our heads down in a variety of places over the last six months.

After getting rid of everything that did not fit in our small car, and trekking with our tent from Virginia to Saskatchewan in July, we've been relying on hospitality and the gifts of family, friends, and strangers for shelter. We've been staying with family, caring for someone else's home, borrowing other people's stuff, and making do with whatever we have.

It's a bit of faith thing, stepping out, not knowing what things are going to look like, or where we'll be in six months time. It feels awkward asking for help, but I think there's something to receiving hospitality as well as giving it.

I anticipate that at some point we will be hosts again and offer hospitality -- and we can maybe learn to be hosts from a space of transience too. But there are times to ask for and receive hospitality as well.

It keeps us humble - relying on others and God's grace instead of ourselves and our bank account balance. It's not comfortable, but I'm learning something here too.
